Robb Gobs - Hai Nan Village, Tesco Kampar

Hai Nan Village restaurant is common especially in Perak as they have branches in almost every Tesco in the silver state.

As it is not a 100% franchise restaurant the menu and taste of the food differs from one to another which is no doubt an eyebrow raiser for most of us considering they share the same name. Some chooses to be pork free while some targets specifically the non-Muslim crowd.

I happen to be quite a regular at Hai Nan Village restaurant at Tesco Kampar due to the fact that my family goes there quite often. As I've completed lost count on how many times I've been there, it is only fair that I start writing a review on the food served in the restaurant that I've been patronizing for such a long time.

A few weeks ago, my family and I went to Kampar once again. As it was pretty early and we decided that it was too early to stuff ourselves with rice and dishes and thus we ordered noodles instead. Do bear in mind that Hai Nan Village at Tesco, Kampar serves pork in their dishes.

An ordinary plate of Char Koay Teow? Almost but it came with a twist. Instead of serving it with pork and some prawns, this one came with deer meat. I must say the difference is quite significant as the deer meat mixed quite well with the koay teow noodle especially when you chew them together. Of course if you're to compare with Penang CKT, this is miles apart, but it's definitely worth trying due to the deer meat.

Their claypot loh shu fun is quite a seller according to the owner. I can tell why after I savored it as it was very flavorful to be exact and not exceedingly salty. This was doubt mouth watering.

Their Singapore Beehoon was a disappointment as it was no different than any ordinary fried beehon you can buy and takeaway from a roadside stall.

The above is their special fried Yee Mee. Generously served with squid, chicken and crabsticks along with an egg, it brought my taste buds to life once again. The chef did well as it was just nice with its saltiness which many of us do pick on these days due to health reasons.

Fish Head Beehoon is a noodle that I'll never get used to in my life as I personally loath it. However, my family members don't share my sentiments and it seems that this was the very noodle that thrilled their taste buds the most.

My sister who has starved herself for 7 years in Russia has always been appreciative of local food. This was no exception as you can see the glutton in her eyes. Asked how did it fared, she told me that the soup was very fragrant with the smell of the fish meat and it was all good.

The hearty meal was not bad considering that it only cost an average of RM5 for each of us. Of course, that sum is considered high for Kampar folks, but judging that it's a restaurant inside Tesco with air cond, I think it's pretty reasonable.

Look forward in the near future as I'll blog more on their other dishes in my future visits.

Cheers
Robb
