My Nuffnang Story
My story with Nuffnang?
It's gonna be a long one. Not to mention there were so many Nuffnang stories I've told in my blog previously that writing it all over again is not going to be easy.
Am gonna do it a little different today.
Let's google search it and we'll tell the story from there.
With the query of "Robb Chew Nuffnang" brought in about 19,400 results (wow).
If you're to go through most of the websites shown, you'd have obviously found out that I worked for Nuffnang for a period of time under Blogger Relations/Community Relations/Community Management.
My words/warnings were sound (and some were controversial) towards unethical bloggers who attempted to cheat our system and advertisers' goodwill and in the same time, my notoriety/fame amongst bloggers were also reasonable as they acknowledged me a hardcore 'nuffie'.
Reason? I was in all the Nuffnang events ever held for bloggers till 9 months ago.
Now let the pictures do the talking if we're to click images on google for "Robb Chew Nuffnang".
First off this;
Mum, I'm on newspaper!
It was actually a post event coverage for the first ever Blogger's Party by Chipster, Pajamas Party where all bloggers come together for a night filled with fun, entertainment and of course, to celebrate the first anniversary of Nuffnang!
Being a little too daring when I was young, I went with little clothes and guess who made it to a center spread full page full color on TheStar? LOL.
Sounds fun, huh? Back end logistic was definitely challenging for the crew to run. But it was all worthwhile.
It was no secret I was actually a "kampung" boy. I came from a small town, reasonably average family and guess what? Never took a plane before in my life prior to picture above. Nuffnang gave me the opportunity to fly in the sky for the first time as I represented the company to Sabahan Bloggers' Gathering on 2008.
Wonderful people in Sabah, all well worth the trip and Nuffnang was indeed proud to be a sponsor for that night.
From there on we had more exciting times, like when the company secured the first ever movie screening exclusive for bloggers - Hancock!
From there on, we had lots of interesting screenings and moving forward to today, the Nuffnang community has never been entertainment deprived. Thank you Shu Mei from BVI for the opportunity given. ;)
Our good work with movie screenings was heard by other companies who tapped into movie industry for their marketing campaigns, such as Hong Leong Online. One of their campaigns back then was sponsoring Made of Honour, a comedy romance and they threw a gala dinner for bloggers to attend.
And that was the first time I attended a public function with a full on Black Tie as well. * Embarrassing that Nuffnang took so many of my first*
Picture was taken at JW Marriot, opposite Pavilion and man, do I look delicious back then. LOL
Photo above taken in 2008 from Nokia Silent Halloween, where we brought Silent Disco to bloggers party! In case you're too lazy to Google, Silent Disco is where a group of people are tuned in through headsets listening dancing beats and dance at the same place. So technically the venue will be quiet but you get people dancing around. Weird for observers, cool for participants. ;)
And since it was Halloween, we were all dressed up for it pretty well, I'd say.
Ever since then, there were so many requests for blogger events and parties for Nuffnang community as advertisers were confident that the approach was very well received by bloggers generally. Maxis Broadband came back for their second party with Nuffnang (first was Wild Live Blogging) with Music Bash!
Basically this time, we the bloggers came as superstars/rockstars/popstars, thus explaining how cool I looked back then (FML, I'm ugly now).
LG came abort a few times too with Angel & Devil event and even to a Cookie Monster party featuring their LG Cookie!
As a result, 300 people turned up dressed in fuzzy monster costume trying to intimidate/cuddle everyone to death! ROAWRR!!
It has definitely been a long journey of mine with Nuffnang.
Come 16 December 2011, 500 bloggers from around the Asia-Pacific region will flock to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for the Nuffnang Asia-Pacific Blog Awards 2011 in Putrajaya Marriott. The Awards aims to not only honour the region's best bloggers, but also to bring together blogger communities from across Asia-Pacific. The Nuffnang Asia-Pacific Blog Awards is brought to you by Volkswagen Malaysia and Putrajaya Marriott.
Blog Awards is an event of recognition for all the hard work bloggers have gone through to make their blogs where they are today. 2 years ago, we had one in Singapore and the company flew me down 6 weeks in advanced to prepare for it. It's a shame I'm not part of the organizing crew anymore but I'm sure the event is in good hands as I had very good successors in Nuffnang to helm the events front.
Me, 2 years ago. You can see I;ve started to accumulate fat. LOL.
I look forward to attend this year's Blog Awards to experience how far the community has grown since I left (totally tuned out of Blogging World).
Will you be going? Check out http://awards.nuffnang.com/2011/ for more details on how to win invites.
All the best, Xinxian and Michelle!
Cheers
Robb
