Chinese New Year Grinch

Is it me or every year that you're older, CNY just turn less fun?

Guess I'm gonna be a grinch today and share that CNY for me wasn't much for me to talk about (at least in positive light).

Sure, the meet up with my parents and relatives were timely (once a year to see relatives you barely care about is alrighty), lousang sessions and gambling are okay but everything else... just seems so.. not fun any more.

I remembered as a kid that CNY was the time of joy mainly due to the following reasons;
- You get money! Lots of money from angpow
- You get compliments for your achievements from all your relatives(technically my siblings were very competitive and high achievers when we were younger)
- You get to eat good food that's hard to get (technically expensive but since it's CNY, parents get them for the festive season)

Fast forward to today;
- Money? I gave out more angpow money to my parents, grandparents, close aunt and uncle than I get in return (all because of the stupid expectations my family has about having 'face' after working you must give angpow to your direct superiors)
- Compliments? Please~~ You're happy enough they (relatives) are still smiling when they hand you a miserable red packet containing RM2 in it
- Good food? Am capable of buying them all year round if I want to

So yea. Growing up makes CNY less fun according to my experience.

The only thing that's left for me to enjoy for CNY would be lousang, a traditional local dish available only in Malaysia and Singapore.

If lousang is gone, I'm gonna murder everyone!!! RAGE!!!!!!!

I play Texas Hold'em Poker and I enjoy it to the max. Reason?

It's not pure luck and gambling as it requires skills to bluff, change betting behaviours and randomness. A little more luck based than Magic but all in all, something I've more control on compared to other forms of gambling methods.

Bringing Texas Hold'em Poker to CNY seems only well received if your crowd is younger (not the aunties and uncles) and have patient in gambling. This means, if next to your table, someone opens a Blackjack table, he's likely to take away all your players. T____T

I guess, it's tough being someone who enjoys thinking more than pure luck.
